“Genesis” was a breakthrough piece of work for Virginia Strom Precourt. For years, she’d worked with a select group of scientists and artists at the Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) in Boston, which was seeking to discover new ways of bringing greater permanency to works of art. Virginia worked tirelessly with both chemical compounds and the tools of traditional art to create panels that would be absorbent enough to tolerate layer after layer of paint and still have the compositional integrity to last forever. “Genesis”, a nighttime glimpse deep into the sky, was the first piece of evidence that she’d realized the MFA committee’s goal.
